Reality

Yo, I'm back Adam's Apples! today's topic is on reality.

Different people have different concepts of reality. Each person’s reality can differ based on life circumstances, religious views, etc… One of the most prominent ways I’ve seen reality get distorted is through infatuation. Now girls, if you notice a guy in this state they will do virtually anything you ask(within reason). Make sure you jump on the train quick though, because infatuation can be short lived.

When looking at the Peter Pan story in McManus’ book Artisan Soul, the Lost Boys are in a different reality than Peter. They are busy feasting on whatever food they can think of, and Peter Pan is skeptical. He doesn’t understand how they could get so caught up in an alternate reality and believe they were actually eating. One of the images that comes to mind as I think of think of this, is the image of how guys and girls see themselves in the mirror. Guys often see themselves as stronger and more muscular than they are, whereas girls often see themselves as not good enough or overweight. It’s a funny picture from the guys perspective, but a tough pill to swallow when you see how the woman sees herself. Each reality is twisted, and in fact the girl is beautifully and wonderfully made. The mirror she sees herself in does not define who she is, she is a child of God who is beautiful inside and out. Guys, sorry you are not that strong…

Art can be a way to step out of reality and depict a different perspective through images. It can be difficult to see the truth without art, or as C.S. Lewis would say, “We can’t understand truth without art.”Art has played a part in many different churches and religions. There is often an abundance of art in any church that you go to, however there are some churches that do not show art. I think that art helps us grasp more of what the Bible says. Having pictures that may not be 100% accurate is not always great, but it does allow us to capture just how painful the crucifixion was. The picture depicts a different reality, but it gets the point across.

In conclusion, reality can be twisted and turned. It can be used for better or for worse(Yes, I’m talking to the guys here…). However, if used for the right purposes, escaping reality can be a beneficial coping mechanisms to help with stress.

Peace out Adam’s Apples!
